Clarksville After Dark
|
The Story so far...
After nearly two-hundred years of peace under the rule of the Ventrue Prince, Damien, tragedy has struck the city of Clarksville. Damien, acknowledged by all as a fair and just Prince, had a very specific weakness that somebody exploited. Damien, as a ventrue, could only drink blood that was free of medications and drugs. Damien's exclusion classified as an allergic reaction that would result in his heart exploding, should he ingest blood tainted so. Only a handful of Kindred knew of his "allergy". The resulting power vacuum left in the wake of the prince's demise quickly over-shadowed any competent investigation into the affair. The next Prince to take the mantle was a Brujah by the name of Dr. Steven Stokes. Dr. Steven Stokes was Prince for all of four nights, during that time many changes and underlying forces were at work. The combination of Stokes' rash punishments for the slightest transgressions and his lack of an information network proved to be his down fall. The good docter did not die, however, he stepped down from the station and named his successor, Damion McClaren, Primogen of the Brujah at the time. Also, at about this time the spirit of Damien, the first prince, appeared during a seance and curses the city and all kindred within.
Since that fateful night, the city of Clarksville was besieged by hunters and the Sabbat. The internal politics of the kindred have been turned on their head. Death, having been a stranger up till now, has made himself at home. With each night the body count rises. With each night, allies become enemies. The madness centered around the new prince and a handful of allies. He ruled the city to the best of his ability, using the weight of the throne and the fists of his enforcers to quash any dissent. One should always remember, however, that no matter how far one rises, there is always a bigger fish. Failure to learn this lesson would prove to be McLaren's undoing. A letter appeared in the hand of the Keeper of the Elysium, marked with the seal of the Justicar of Clan Brujah-no forgery. "It is declared that the city of Clarksville, in the county of Montgomery, in the state of Tennessee, in the country of the United States of America is now severed of all allegiances and alliances with the sect known as the Camarilla. So it is done, this night of December 2, 2000." McLaren left the city, besieged as it was, leaving Kindred of all walks to step up and fill the void, to try and defend acestral homes. A group of these Cainites, calling themselves the Board, began a new regime, opening their arms to all breeds of superntural creatures in an attempt to bring peace back to the city, including the Garou of the outlying forests, the Fey who walked the dreams of the mortal population, and the Awakened of the humans.
Then the Sabbat came.
Two years. Two years of running, hiding, fighting for their lives. Two years since the Inner Council removed their protection from Clarksville, since a small group of Licks, however powerful, had the audacity to believe that they could survive without the threat of Camarilla might. Two years since the war parties of the Sabbat roared into town, burning out havens, hacking slashing their way through humanity, and drinking the heart's blood of all the fools who tried to stand against them, the ones who didn't have the sense to run.
Prince Vudkoluck changed everything.
In a month-long war that raged on, above, and beneath the streets of a once-serene town, Kindred and Cainites hacked, slashed and murdered one another. Final Death came to more than a few, and would have been a welcome respite for others. Bodies, minds, and lives were shattered in what would afterward be described as one of the singularly most bleak periods in regional memory. However, the Camarilla eventually wrested a narrow victory, and began the process of rebuilding under their new liege.
Vudkoluk's reign, however stable, could not begin to meet the requirements and pressures placed upon it by the Camarilla bureacracy, and eventually the domain was ceded to the forces of the Sabbat. The denizens of Clarksville were premptorily turned out of their homes by Madame Lucinde, the Ventrue Justicar, as their territory was deemed 'too expensive', but offered hospitality in New York City.
And so the exodus begins.
